The Gardens

The gardens of Grande Vue are the perfect space for a special alfresco occasion such as a significant birthday party, product launch, intimate wedding or elopement, or even a cocktail soirée just because!

Surrounded by verdant grounds, the private gardens of Grande Vue offer guests to our property an iconic Tasmanian view, taking in the River Derwent and marina of the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, across Sandy Bay all the way up to kunanyi/Mount Wellington.

Taking inspiration from the hotel’s Queen Anne architecture and the myriad gardens hosts Ashley and Brock have visited throughout Europe, hedging and cottage plantings frame a staircase from the sandstone courtyard to the parterre perfectly framing the mature spruce tree casting shade over the lawned terrace below.

Guests of Grande Vue are invited to retreat to the garden with a cup of tea or tipple of choice and enjoy the ever changing panorama beyond.

Following a significant restoration, the gardens of Grande Vue were officially opened on 17 March 2024, by Her Excellency The Hon, Barbara Baker AC, Governor of Tasmania.

““Upon taking ownership of Grande Vue, we were presented with a blank canvas in the backyard – a simple grassy slope and a stone retaining wall. Our aspiration was to create a space that seamlessly extends the hotel's essence. The terraced design, featuring sandstone stairs leading to a grassy area and a charming arbour, evokes a sense of tranquillity and elegance...”
