The Experience

Welcome to our unique 9-room private hotel, set in a historic residence in Battery Point. This charming old home has been thoughtfully converted to offer a one-of-a-kind experience, distinct from traditional boutique hotels or bed and breakfasts.

We want Grand Vue to feel like your home away from home and invite you to enjoy our guest lounge, dining room, and kitchen during your stay. With a wide range of reading materials and plush, comfortable sofas, the lounge is the perfect place to relax and unwind after a day of exploring Hobart and its surroundings.

Grand Vue's guest kitchen is a delightful spot for breakfast and afternoon tea. Our gourmet larder is stocked daily with fresh, locally baked bread, cereals, fruit compote, yoghurt, and a selection of juices, teas, and coffee. The enticing aroma of our delicious homemade cakes often fills the kitchen before afternoon teatime, and you'll discover a delightful treat or two under the cake stands in the kitchen.

Breakfast, morning coffee, or a sundowner can be enjoyed in our guest dining room overlooking Marieville Esplanade, taking in the ever-changing vista of Hobart’s River Derwent and the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, all the way up to kunanyi/Mount Wellington.

We value your privacy and won't encroach on your space, but we are always nearby if you need assistance—whether it's carrying your bags upstairs or providing recommendations for local restaurants and tours. Brock, a Hobart native, and Ash, who has lived here for over 20 years, are passionate about everything Tasmanian. They are in and out of the property but can meet anytime for a chat.

We have also prepared a comprehensive guest compendium located in your room. Inside, you will find a curated selection of our favourite places to eat, drink, and explore our beautiful pocket of the island state.

We look forward to making your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible!

  • "Peaceful and quiet and feel like you have the place to yourself"

What a special place! Ash and Brock have done an incredible job with Grand Vue, from the moment you step in, you feel relaxed and feel like you are staying in a home. It is very peaceful and quiet and feel like you have the place to yourself. They have considered every detail.

From the the furniture, decor, lighting, artwork, the jazz music that plays in every room, the bedroom details, the kitchen with breakfast supplies and a freshly baked cake or biscuits every day. It's the atmospheric warm feel in this place that is really appreciated. Not to mention the incredible location and views of the water. My partner and I stayed two nights but could of stayed longer.

We felt this was the perfect scenic spot to base ourselves in Hobert, we loved the fact we could still walk to Hobert and Salamanca as it was only a short walk away and loved walking back to this peaceful spot in Battery Point at the end of the day. We can't wait to come back and stay in this wonderful 5 star hotel. Thank you Ash and Brock!

  • "Rooms are spacious and clean, and the views are incredible overlooking the harbour"

Incredible! I don't think there is anything else like the Grand Vue Hotel. It isn't a hotel or a B&B it's more like a luxurious home away from home. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the views are incredible overlooking the harbour. It is close to the markets and wharves, and lots of cute restaurants, cafes and pubs close by.

The first thing people do when they stay is take photos of the hotel and the rooms because it is so beautiful - the attention to detail is exceptional. The kitchen is stocked with coffee and tea, tasty homemade pastries, breakfast cereal and varieties of bread, fruit, yoghurt etc and available at any time of the day so you can eat [breakfast or a snack] whenever you like. We had a late flight out and it was no problem to leave our bags and return at the end of the day for a cup of tea and cake whilst enjoying the view overlooking the harbour from the dining room.

This gorgeous home is a must when visiting Hobart. Ashley is like your super helpful best friend. Thank you!
